Pig facts and tips for pig coloring pages
Pigs roll in mud for a good reason. They have very few sweat glands, so wet mud cools them down, and a dried layer protects their skin from sunburn and insects. They are also clever. Pigs learn their names, solve simple puzzles and remember where food is hidden. A pig's snout is strong enough to dig up soil and sensitive enough to smell food underground. Pigs don't see far, but their hearing is sharp. Piglets in a litter each pick a teat and usually return to the same one at every feeding.
Pink pigs aren't bubblegum pink. Try a pale peach or a light pink pencil, then add a slightly darker pink on the snout, inside the ears and along the belly. Mud is easy and fun: brown crayon in rough patches, with a few splashes flying off. For a spotted or belted pig, color the dark areas first so you don't smudge them into the light ones. Don't forget the tail. Many pigs have a curly one, though some hang straight.
Frequently asked questions
Are these pig coloring pages free?
Yes. All pig coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.
Why are pigs pink?
Not all of them are. The pink breeds have white hair over pale skin, so the skin color shows through. Other pigs are black, red-brown, spotted or belted.
Do you have a three little pigs coloring page?
Yes. The old folk tale is here as a Medium page with the straw, stick and brick houses, drawn in our own style. Kids can give each house its own color: yellow straw, brown sticks and red brick.
Which pig coloring sheets are easiest?
The pig face, the sitting pig with a curly tail and the piglet in a puddle. They are Easy pages built from circles and ovals, which suits fat crayons and finger paint. Start with pink and add brown mud on top for a happy pig.
