How to color horse coloring pages in real coat colors
Horses are measured in hands, and one hand is 4 inches. They can doze standing up because their legs lock in place, although they lie down for deep sleep. A horse's eyes sit on the sides of its head, so it sees almost all the way around without turning. Its teeth keep growing for most of its life, which is why people can estimate a horse's age by looking in its mouth.
Riders name coat colors precisely, and you can copy them. A bay is brown with a black mane, tail and lower legs. A chestnut is reddish brown all over, mane included. A palomino is gold with a white or cream mane. A pinto has large patches of white and another color. Hooves are dark gray, or pale tan below a white leg marking. Use long pencil strokes for the mane and tail, and add a lighter layer over the browns to get a glossy coat.
Frequently asked questions
Are these horse coloring pages free?
Yes. All horse coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.
What are the white marks on a horse's face called?
A small white spot on the forehead is a star. A narrow line down the face is a stripe, and a wide one is a blaze. White on the lower legs is called a sock or a stocking, depending on how high it goes. Leave those areas uncolored.
Do you have realistic horse coloring pages?
Yes. The Detailed pages show correct proportions, muscle lines and tack, including a show jumper and a horse portrait. The Easy pages use a rounder cartoon style. A photo of the breed helps you match the coat.
What should I use to color a horse's mane?
Colored pencils or fine-tip markers. Draw long strokes from the crest of the neck to the tips of the hair, and leave a few thin gaps so the mane looks like separate strands.
