Cow facts and tips for cow coloring pages

A cow has one stomach with four parts. It swallows grass quickly, brings it back up later and chews it again, which is called chewing the cud. Cows spend around eight hours a day doing that. Strictly speaking, a cow is an adult female. The male is a bull and the young are calves. In many breeds both cows and bulls grow horns, so horns don't tell you which is which. A dairy cow can drink a bathtub of water in a day. Cows are social animals, and many have a favorite companion in the herd.

A Holstein is the simplest place to start. Leave the white areas blank and fill the patches with black or very dark gray. Color the udder pink and the hooves gray. The nose can be pink, black or speckled. For a Highland cow, use long, loose strokes of orange-brown and let them overlap so the coat looks shaggy. Jerseys are light brown with darker shading on the face and legs. Green grass and one yellow buttercup are enough background.
