April Coloring Pages

April showers bring May flowers, and our free April coloring pages have plenty of both. Color umbrellas and puddles, ducklings in the rain, sprouts in the garden, a robin feeding her chicks and the planet Earth for Earth Day. Depending on the year there's Easter to color for as well. An April title page and blank calendar grid are included for the classroom wall.

What happens in April

April is the heart of spring in most of the United States. Rain is frequent, trees leaf out and gardens get planted once the danger of frost has passed. April Fools' Day, a day for harmless pranks, is April 1. Earth Day is April 22, and Arbor Day, when people plant trees, is the last Friday of the month. Easter often falls in April, though it can come in late March. April is National Poetry Month as well, and many schools take spring break around this time. Baseball season is under way and evenings are noticeably lighter.

Use April coloring pages for a calendar or bulletin board

  • Rain gauge calendar: color a raindrop in the grid for every rainy day and compare with a sunny tally.
  • Calendar topper: tape the finished title page over this month's dates.
  • Umbrella board: each student decorates an umbrella, and raindrops cut from blue paper carry spelling words or math facts.
  • Poem in a frame: write a short spring poem inside the poetry frame and color the border.
  • Plant diary: color one sprout page each week as classroom seeds grow.
