What happens in May
May is the last full month of spring. Cinco de Mayo is May 5. Mother's Day is the second Sunday, and Teacher Appreciation Week is the first full week. Memorial Day, the last Monday of the month, honors members of the military who died in service, and the long weekend is widely treated as the unofficial start of summer. Many schools in the South finish the year in late May, while others run into June. Gardens are in full swing, strawberries ripen in many states, and May Day on May 1 is an old spring festival known for flower baskets and maypoles.
