Panda Coloring Pages

A panda is already black and white, which makes it a fun puzzle to color: what do you fill in, and what do you leave alone? These free panda coloring pages include a giant panda chewing bamboo, a baby panda tumbling down a hill, a mother with her cub and a red panda curled on a branch. Every panda bear coloring page is an original drawing.

Giant panda facts and how to color one correctly

Wild giant pandas live only in the mountain bamboo forests of central China. Bamboo makes up almost all of their diet. Because it has so little nutrition, a panda may eat for 10 to 16 hours a day. A panda grips the stalks with a false thumb, which is really an enlarged wrist bone. In 2016 the giant panda's status improved from endangered to vulnerable after decades of forest protection. Unlike many other bears, giant pandas don't hibernate.

To color a panda the right way, remember where the black goes: the ears, the patches around the eyes, the nose, all four legs and a band across the shoulders. Everything else stays white, including the tail, which many people color black by mistake. Use a black crayon or marker for the patches and a light gray pencil for soft shadows on the white fur. The eye patches are shaped like teardrops that tilt outward, which gives the face its gentle look. Bamboo is green with pale rings at the joints.

Frequently asked questions

Are these panda coloring pages free?

Yes. All panda coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.

Is a panda's tail black or white?

White. It's a common mistake in drawings. The black parts are the ears, eye patches, nose, legs and shoulders.

Is a red panda related to a giant panda?

Not closely. The giant panda is a true bear. The red panda belongs to its own family and is nearer in size to a house cat. They share a name and a love of bamboo. Color its coat rusty red, with a ringed tail, white face markings and black legs and belly.

Do you have easy panda coloring sheets?

Yes. Start with the sitting panda holding one bamboo stalk or the simple panda face. The shapes are bold, and the black patches are large enough for a thick marker.
