Rainforest facts to pair with jungle coloring pages
Tropical rainforests cover only a small part of Earth's land, roughly six percent, yet about half of the world's plant and animal species live in them. It rains there nearly every day. The canopy is so thick that very little sunlight reaches the ground, so the forest floor is dim and many animals live high in the trees. The Amazon in South America is the largest rainforest in the world.
A jungle scene needs more than one green. Use yellow-green for leaves in the light, deep green for leaves in shade and blue-green far in the background. Then let the animals carry the bright colors: a red macaw, an orange toucan bill, a blue butterfly. Color the animals first so they stay clean, and fill in the leaves around them. Markers suit the bold leaf shapes, and overlapping two greens gives you a darker shadow for free.
Frequently asked questions
Are these jungle coloring pages free?
Yes. All jungle coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.
What is the difference between a jungle and a rainforest?
People often use the words the same way. A rainforest is a forest with very high rainfall and a closed canopy. Jungle usually means the thick, tangled growth you find at the edges and in clearings, where more light reaches the ground.
Which jungle pictures to color are best for younger kids?
The Easy pages: a toucan, a smiling sloth, a monkey on a vine and a tree frog on a leaf. They each show one animal with two or three big leaves.
Do you have rainforest coloring sheets for a habitat lesson?
Yes. The rainforest layers page has the four layers with space to label them, and the Amazon river scene shows which animals live at which level.
