Crown Coloring Pages

Pick a crown coloring page and decide who gets to rule today. There are tall king's crowns with points and arches, queen's crowns set with gems, delicate tiaras, flower crowns, leafy laurel wreaths and a paper crown you can cut out, tape into a ring and wear. The jewels are blank, so the ruby, sapphire and emerald choices are yours.

  • Tiaras: a half circle of jewels worn at the front of the head.
  • Small crowns: three to five points, sized for a prince, a princess or a frog.
  • Flower crowns: a woven ring of blooms and leaves.
  • Laurel wreaths: two leafy branches, the prize for winners in ancient Greece and Rome.
  • Wearable crowns: a long strip with points to color, cut out and tape together.

Crown parts, jewels and how to color gold

A royal crown is built from a few standard parts. The band, or circlet, is the ring that sits on the head. Points or leaf shapes rise from it. On grander crowns, curved arches sweep up from the band and meet in the middle. Many also have a soft velvet cap inside, traditionally deep red or purple, and a strip of white fur with black flecks around the bottom.

A tiara is different. It's an open half circle that sits at the front of the head, while a crown goes all the way around.

Jewel colors to choose from:

  • Ruby: deep red.
  • Sapphire: royal blue.
  • Emerald: rich green.
  • Amethyst: purple.
  • Diamond: leave it white, with pale blue on one or two facets.
  • Pearl: white or cream with a soft gray shadow.

To color gold without a metallic pencil, use three colors. Fill the shape with yellow. Shade the edges and undersides with orange-brown. Leave a thin white streak where the light would hit. Silver works the same way with light gray, dark gray and white.

Frequently asked questions

Are these crown coloring pages free?

Yes. All crown coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.

Is there a crown coloring page I can cut out and wear?

Yes. The wearable crown prints as a long strip with points. Color it, cut along the outline and tape the ends together. For a bigger head, add a strip of paper at the back. Card stock holds its shape best.

What colors should a crown be?

Gold with red, blue and green jewels is the classic. Silver with pale blue stones suits a tiara, and a flower crown takes whatever is in bloom. Purple has been linked with royalty for thousands of years, so it's a good pick for the velvet cap.

Are these crowns for kings or queens?

Either. A crown doesn't know who's wearing it. Print a few styles and let everyone choose, whether that's a tall crown with points, a tiara or a wreath of leaves.
