Ballerina Coloring Pages
Tutus, ribbons and pointed toes fill these ballerina coloring pages. You can color a young dancer at the barre, a pair of pointe shoes, a boy mid-leap, a ballerina in arabesque and a full stage under the lights. Several pages show real ballet positions, so dance students can color what they're learning in class.

A short ballet vocabulary for young dancers
Ballet steps have French names because the first royal dance academy was founded in France in the 1600s. These are the words that match the pages.
- Plié means bent. The dancer bends both knees with the back straight.
- Relevé means raised. The dancer rises onto the balls of the feet.
- Arabesque. The dancer stands on one leg with the other stretched straight behind.
- Pirouette. A full turn on one leg.
- Barre. The horizontal rail dancers hold during warm-up exercises.
- Pointe shoes. Shoes with a stiff box at the toe that let trained dancers stand on the tips of their toes. Students usually begin pointe work only after several years of training, when a teacher decides their feet and ankles are strong enough.
There are five basic positions of the feet, numbered first through fifth, and nearly every ballet step starts or ends in one of them. In first position the heels touch and the toes turn out to the sides.
Dance teachers hand these pages out at the end of class or tuck them into recital programs. Ask students to color the page that matches the step they practiced that day.
Frequently asked questions
Are these ballerina coloring pages free?
Yes. All ballerina coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.
Do you have easy ballerina coloring pages for preschoolers?
Yes. The little dancer pages marked Easy show one ballerina with a plain tutu and no background. They fit a first dance class or a ballet birthday party.
Are there ballet coloring pages with boys?
Yes. Several pages show boys and men at the barre, leaping and partnering. Ballet has always needed male dancers, and boys in class like seeing themselves on the page.
What colors should I use for a tutu?
Classical tutus are often white or pale pink, but stage costumes come in every color. Light strokes of two close shades, such as pink and lavender, make the layers of tulle look soft.
