Astronaut Coloring Pages

Each astronaut coloring sheet in this set shows life off the planet. Astronauts float outside on a tether, bounce across the moon, plant a flag, eat dinner upside down and wave through a round window. The suit patches are blank, so you can add your own name and mission badge before you color.

What's on each astronaut coloring sheet

  • Spacewalks: an astronaut outside the station, clipped to a safety tether, fixing a solar panel.
  • Moon walks: boot prints, craters, a rover and Earth hanging in a black sky.
  • Life on the station: floating through a hatch, sleeping in a bag strapped to the wall and chasing food that drifts away.
  • Launch day: crews in lighter flight suits walking out to the rocket.
  • Portraits: a helmet tucked under one arm and a chest patch ready for a name.
  • Astronaut animals: cats, dogs and bears in bubble helmets.
  • Gear: helmets, gloves, boots and a jet backpack.

How a spacesuit works

A spacesuit is a one-person spacecraft. Outside the station there's no air, and the temperature swings from far below freezing in shadow to hotter than boiling water in sunlight. The suit handles all of it.

  • The helmet has a clear bubble and a thin gold-coated visor that blocks the sun's glare. Color the visor gold or orange and add a small reflection of Earth.
  • The backpack holds oxygen to breathe, a battery, a radio and a fan. It also removes the carbon dioxide the astronaut breathes out.
  • The gloves have heaters in the fingertips.
  • Under everything is a stretchy layer laced with thin tubes of cool water, because working in a spacesuit is hot.

Spacewalk suits are white. White reflects heat and is easy to spot against the black of space. The orange or blue suits you sometimes see are worn inside the spacecraft for launch and landing.

Astronauts on the International Space Station circle Earth about every 90 minutes, so they see around 16 sunrises and sunsets a day.

Frequently asked questions

Are these astronaut coloring sheets free?

Yes. All astronaut coloring sheets are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.

Do you have cute astronaut coloring pages?

Yes. Look for the Easy pages with a small astronaut holding a star balloon, a cat in a helmet or a bear riding a rocket. They have big heads, round shapes and thick lines.

Can I add my own name to an astronaut coloring page?

Yes. The chest patch, the shoulder badge and the flag on the sleeve are left blank. Write a name, draw a flag and invent a mission badge. Some teachers glue a photo of each student's face into the helmet for a class display.

Why do astronauts float?

They're falling. The station and everyone in it are falling around Earth all the time, moving sideways so fast that they keep missing the ground. Gravity is still there. It just doesn't press them to the floor, so hair, pencils and dinner drift.
