Turkey Coloring Pages
Choose a turkey coloring page and start with the best part, the tail. We have round cartoon turkeys with fanned feathers, realistic wild turkeys strutting through the woods, fluffy baby turkeys and turkeys in scarves. On the blank-feather pages, each tail feather is an empty space waiting for a pattern, a color or a word. They're a Thanksgiving classroom favorite, and they also fit a bird or farm unit any time of year.

Turkey facts and the colors to use
Wild turkeys are native to North America. A male is called a tom or gobbler, a female is a hen and a chick is a poult. Only the males gobble and fan their tails. The red flap that hangs over the beak is the snood, and the skin under the chin is the wattle. Wild turkeys can fly short distances and roost in trees at night, while heavy farm turkeys stay on the ground.
For a realistic bird, color the body dark brown with bronze and black bands across the tail and a lighter tip on each feather. The head is bare and bluish, and the wattle is red. Most farm turkeys are white. For a cartoon turkey, anything goes. Red, orange, yellow and brown is the classic set, and rainbow tails are popular too.
Turkey activities
- Disguise a turkey: a well-known classroom project. Kids draw a costume over a plain turkey so it can hide before Thanksgiving, then write about the disguise.
- Thankful feathers: write one thing you're grateful for on each blank feather.
- Handprint tail: trace a hand behind a turkey body cut from the page and color each finger as a feather.
- Skip counting: number the feathers by twos, fives or tens before coloring.
