Mouse facts and coloring tips
A mouse's front teeth never stop growing, so it gnaws on seeds, wood and almost anything else to keep them short. Mice are most active at night and use their whiskers to feel their way along walls. Stories love to pair mice with cheese, but real mice usually go for seeds, grains and fruit first. A harvest mouse weaves a ball-shaped nest of grass high up in the stems.
Mouse fur is a soft mix, so blend light brown with gray instead of using one flat color. The ears, nose, paws and tail have very little fur, which is why they look pink. Color them with a light pink pencil and add a touch of gray so they don't glow. Eyes are shiny black with one white highlight. Because the animal is so small on the page, the background matters: wheat is golden yellow, blackberries are deep purple and acorns are tan with a darker cap.
Frequently asked questions
Are these mouse coloring pages free?
Yes. All mouse coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.
What color should a mouse be?
Wild mice are brown, gray or sandy with a paler belly. Pet mice can be pure white with pink eyes, black, cream, or white with patches. All of them have pink ears, feet and tails.
Do you have a simple mouse coloring sheet for little kids?
Yes. The mouse holding a piece of cheese and the mouse peeking from a teacup are Easy pages with rounded shapes and a single figure.
Are mice and rats the same animal?
No. They're different species. Rats are much bigger, with a thicker tail and a blunter nose. A mouse has larger ears compared with its head and a thin tail.
