Fishing Coloring Pages

A quiet dock, a red-and-white bobber and a fish on the line: these fishing coloring pages suit anyone who loves being by the water, from a kid with a first rod to a grown-up who'd like to be there right now. Color a child's first catch, a fly fisher in a river, an ice fishing hut, a canoe at sunrise and the fish themselves, from bass to trout.

What color is each fish?

If you want the fish to look right, here are their real colors.

  • Largemouth bass: olive green on the back, a pale belly and a dark, jagged stripe along each side.
  • Rainbow trout: silver with a pink to red band along the side and small black spots on the back and tail.
  • Bluegill: olive to dark blue with an orange or yellow breast and a black flap at the edge of the gill cover.
  • Channel catfish: gray to olive with no scales, a forked tail and whiskers called barbels.
  • Northern pike: long and green with rows of pale, bean-shaped spots.

A purple bass is fine too.

Before a first fishing trip

Print a gear page the night before and name each item together: rod, reel, line, hook, bobber, sinker. The bobber floats on the surface and dips when a fish bites, which is the part kids watch.

Pack a life jacket for anyone near deep water, and check your state's rules before you go. Adults usually need a fishing license, young children often fish free, and limits vary from state to state.

These pages also fold into an easy handmade card for Father's Day or a grandparent's birthday.
