Fire Truck Coloring Pages
Every fire truck coloring page here is ready for a red crayon, but the trucks are not all the same. There's a pumper with hoses packed on the side, a ladder truck stretching up to a window, a small brush truck for grass fires and an airport truck with a water cannon on the roof. You'll also find firefighters in full gear, a spotted station dog and a hydrant or two.

What's on each fire truck coloring page
- Pumper: also called a fire engine. It carries water, a pump and hoses, and it is usually the first to arrive.
- Ladder truck: carries a long powered ladder plus saws, axes and fans for getting into a building.
- Tiller truck: a ladder truck so long that a second driver steers the rear wheels from a cab at the back.
- Brush truck: a small four-wheel-drive pickup with a water tank, built for grass and forest fires.
- Airport crash truck: huge tires and a roof nozzle that can spray foam while the truck is still moving.
- Rescue truck: a rolling toolbox packed with cutters, jacks and ropes for crashes and other rescues.
- Firefighters and stations: helmets, boots, air tanks and the station with its tall garage doors.
How a fire truck works
People use fire engine and fire truck for the same thing, but firefighters often split them. An engine is the one that pumps water. A truck is the one with the big ladder.
A pumper usually carries around 500 gallons of water. That sounds like a lot, but a large hose can use it up in a few minutes, so one of the first jobs at a fire is to connect to a hydrant. The pump panel on the side, covered in gauges and levers, lets the operator control how hard each hose sprays.
A ladder truck has to stay steady with its ladder stretched as far as 100 feet into the air. Before the ladder goes up, metal legs called outriggers slide out from the sides and press down on the ground.
For a realistic page, add yellow or white reflective stripes along the body, silver for the ladder and the bell, and dark gray for the hoses. The lights on the roof are red, sometimes mixed with blue or white.
Frequently asked questions
Are these fire truck coloring pages free?
Yes. All fire truck coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.
Why are fire trucks red?
Mostly tradition. Red has stood for fire and emergencies for well over a century, and nobody is certain how it started. Some departments paint their trucks lime yellow or white because those colors are easier to see in low light, so they're realistic choices too.
Do you have easy fire truck coloring pages for preschoolers?
Yes. The Easy pages show one truck from the side with a short ladder, round wheels and thick outlines. They fit well with Fire Prevention Week in October, when many classrooms talk about fire safety.
What do the parts on a fire truck do?
The light bar and siren clear traffic. The reels and flat bundles on the sides are hoses. Compartment doors hide tools such as axes, pry bars and air tanks. On some ladder trucks, the bucket at the tip of the ladder is a platform that firefighters stand in.
