Baby Coloring Pages

• Sleeping babies: a newborn swaddled in a blanket and a baby asleep in a crib under a star mobile
• Milestones: sitting up, crawling and first steps toward open arms

Getting a sibling ready. A new baby is a big change for a preschooler. Coloring pages of babies sleeping and feeding let you talk about what's coming. Point at the picture and explain: babies sleep most of the day, they cry because they can't talk yet, and they can't play for a while. Newborns sleep around 14 to 17 hours a day, which surprises most kids.

Baby shower activity. Set out the onesie and "Welcome baby" pages with markers. Guests color one and write a wish on the back, and the parents-to-be take home a stack of cards. It works at mixed-age showers because kids and adults can do it together.

Nursery decorations. Young babies see high-contrast pictures more easily, since their vision is still blurry in the first months. A baby page colored in black plus one or two bold colors, taped near the changing table, gives a newborn something to look at.

Older kids can also color a milestone page each time the baby does something new and keep the set in a folder as a homemade baby book.
