Cupcake Coloring Pages
These cupcakes coloring pages are all frosting and no crumbs. Print one big cupcake with a swirl on top, a birthday cupcake with a candle, a box of six from the bakery or a cupcake with a smiling face. The wrapper, the frosting and the sprinkles are separate shapes, so each one can be a different color.

Cupcakes coloring pages to choose from
- Classic swirls: a tall spiral of frosting with ridges from the piping tip.
- Birthday cupcakes: one candle, a number or a little flag stuck in the top.
- Cute cupcakes: dot eyes and a small smile on the wrapper.
- Toppers: a cherry, a strawberry, a heart or a flower made of frosting petals.
- Animal cupcakes: bear, cat and bunny faces built from frosting and candy ears.
- Bakery displays: a tiered stand, a box of six and a glass display case.
- Baking scenes: a mixing bowl, a muffin tin, oven mitts and a piping bag.
- Decorate-your-own: a plain cupcake with smooth frosting, waiting for your design.
How to color a cupcake from the wrapper up
A cupcake has four parts, and it's easiest to color them from the bottom.
- The wrapper. Paper liners have pleats, the folds that run up and down. Color every other pleat a little darker, or give each one a thin shadow on one side. Pastels, polka dots and stripes all work.
- The cake. Only a thin band shows between the wrapper and the frosting. Golden tan is vanilla, dark brown is chocolate and deep red is red velvet.
- The frosting. Follow the swirl. Color each ridge lighter on top and darker underneath, where the next ridge casts a shadow. Two shades of one color are enough. For white frosting, use the paper and shade with pale blue or lavender.
- The toppings. Sprinkles in five or six bright colors, a red cherry with a white highlight, or a candle with a yellow flame that turns orange at the tip.
Frosting colors that look good together: pink with mint green, lavender with yellow, or chocolate brown with turquoise.
One explanation for the name: before muffin tins were common, small cakes were baked in individual cups.
Frequently asked questions
Are these cupcakes coloring pages free?
Yes. All cupcakes coloring pages are free to download and print for personal and classroom use.
Do you have birthday cupcake coloring pages?
Yes. Several pages have a candle, a number or a flag. Print one, color it and fold it into a card, or use the blank-flag page to write a name or an age.
Which cupcake coloring pages are easiest?
The cupcake with a cherry and the cute cupcake with a face. Both have three or four large areas: wrapper, cake, frosting and topping.
Can I decorate my own cupcake?
Yes. The decorate-your-own page has a plain wrapper and a smooth dome of frosting. Draw the swirls, sprinkles and toppers yourself. It's a good warm-up before decorating real cupcakes, because kids can plan their design on paper first.
